Dental Crowns are dental restorations that are more commonly referred to as “dental caps.” At North Main Family Dental, we know that the goal of Dental Crowns is to restore the form and function of your teeth.

Airdrie Dental Crowns

Dental Crowns may be an ideal treatment option available when previous fillings are larger than the natural tooth structure. As well deep fractures may have occurred below the gum line, thus requiring the crown be replaced. As well teeth that have undergone root canal treatment or teeth that have reoccurring tooth decay may also need a Dental Crown. They are also used to improve the appearance of natural teeth that may be malformed, malpositioned or discolored.

Dental Crowns can be made from various different materials, including all ceramic porcelain; Zirconia based porcelain, porcelain-fused-to-metal, full cast metal and traditional gold. Based on numerous factors including aesthetics, position within your mouth, dental habits such as teeth grinding, and your personal preference, a full assessment will be completed by Dr. Richelle Bedier to determine which material is appropriate for your situation.

A Dental Crown may be recommended when:

  1. If you have a previously filled tooth and there now exists more filling than tooth. This results in the existing tooth structure becoming weakened and the tooth can no longer support the filling.
  2. If you have extensive damage, decay or tooth breakage.
  3. If you have discolorations and compromised tooth aesthetics.
  4. If you have fractures in your tooth.
  5. If you have had root canal therapy, your teeth tend to become brittle and are more apt to fracture. These teeth need to be protected and strengthened by a replacement crown.
  6. When missing teeth are replaced with a dental bridge, the adjacent teeth require crowns to support the replacement teeth. These Crowns strengthen and protect the remaining tooth structure while improving the appearance of your teeth.

How Do We Make Your All Ceramic Dental Crown?

Once the tooth is prepared, an impression is obtained of the area, which is then sent to our dental laboratory where your custom crown or bridge is created by a skilled professional lab technician.

If you are interested in a long-term, cost-effective, esthetic and durable restoration, a crown may be the best treatment option for you!
